Announcements

BULLETIN DONATIONS: Most Sundays are now open for bulletin donations! Someone in your family may be celebrating a birthday, an anniversary, a graduation or any occasion and you may want to donate a Bulletin in honour of that occasion. The cost is $10.00. Recognition will be made in the Bulletin for the week requested.

TIME OUT FOR WOMEN: Are you looking for a special way to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, the upcoming birth of a child or another important occasion? Maybe you have a special group of friends or an auction or bridge club with whom you would like to share an afternoon. Time Out for Women would be pleased to cater an afternoon tea for you in the church lounge. The cost is $8 per person and includes all the food and table decorations. If you have questions, or would like to book your tea, please speak to Linda Bowden or Betty Grandy.

THANK YOU: We are delighted to have Corinne Burgess as our soloist this morning. Corinne has been singing soprano in the Senior Choir since she was a teenager and we appreciate her sharing her talent with us.
We also thank Ruth Wakeham who sang last Sunday at short notice and it did not make the bulletin. Ruth also has been a choir member since she was a teenager and is always willing to share her talent with us also.

CHURCH OFFICE HOURS: Please note the change in hours for the summer months. The office will be open Tuesday - Thursday 9:00 - 12 noon until after Labour Day. Please have announcements into the Church Office by Wednesdays at noon. In case of emergency please call Bette Anderson at 364-6202 or Elizabeth Purchase at 579-1241.

SUNDAY SCHOOL: Please note the following changes of date. Sunday School Kick-off and Registration has been rescheduled to September 14, 2008 - the second Sunday after Labour Day. We will need people to look after Nursery. This will involve reading to children and playing games with them. This essential service allows young parents the opportunity to enjoy a church service. We will have to have at least two persons at all times in the Nursery, so four to six persons are needed. Ideally we need three teachers for the other age groups, so that there can be some " job sharing." These teachers will have the opportunity to work with experienced Sunday School teachers. For those interested in teaching as a career, it is an opportunity to build a resume. Other non teaching volunteers are very welcome. For further information, please leave a message for Ruth Wakeham at the Church office: 722-3023.

PRE-AUTHORIZED REMITTANCE (PAR) (Download the form)
Cochrane Street congregation receives no money except that contributed by
the supporters of the congregation and by fund-raising efforts. Whether you attend church or not, the bills have to be paid. Salaries, utilities, insurance, assessments to East District of the United Church, outreach, both local and further away, maintenance and repairs all have to be paid in a timely manner. We all expect our church to be available - for a wedding, a baptism, a funeral, regular Sunday services or special ones such as Christmas and Easter.
Our Treasurer, Stephen Jones, says that the easiest way to donate to Cochrane Street United Church is to join the 42 families who currently belong to PAR . This allows us to take your offering directly from your bank account once a month. It is easier for you, because you don't have to remember your envelope and search for money every week, and it is easier for the church, because we know what moneys we will be receiving.
If you would like a card to put in the collection plate we can willingly provide them, but Stephen says that his own experience is that he forgets that as well! If you would like to join PAR, please complete the form which is available at both entrances to the church and either send or give it to the Treasurer or put it in the collection plate on Sunday (in a sealed envelope).

UNABLE TO GET TO SUNDAY WORSHIP ..... but want to stay connected? If you or someone you know is unable to get to church but would like to stay connected to what's happening at Cochrane Street, you can have a copy of the weekly bullet regularly in and sermon sent to your home. If you would like to receive a bulletin, please contact the church office at 722-3023 and leave your name and address and we would be happy to arrange for a copy to be delivered. If anyone has an interest in helping with this service by delivering a bulletin to someone in your neighbourhood, call the church office at 722-3023.
If you are able, donations of postage stamps would be appreciated.

SCENT SENSITIVE: Due to increased expression of health and allergy concern, we are asked to become "scent-sensitive" at Cochrane Street. In the interest of your church friends who have reactions to perfumes and colognes, you are asked NOT to wear such fragrances. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

BAG TO SCHOOL PROJECT 2008: ADVANCE NOTICE
Once again plans are underway to offer the Bag to School Project for children of Bridges to Hope clients. This is a service that seeks to provide age and grade specific school bags for children starting school in September. Cochrane Street United Church, working with Bridges to Hope, coordinates the project but would not be able to fill this need without the generous support of all the United and Presbyterian churches in the area. Please keep this in mind. Further information will be forthcoming in July/August.
